workshops!

My dear friends Kristen and Paige at the freshly minted Modern Maker (in Glen Ridge, NJ) have invited me to put on a couple of workshops as part of their Maker Monday series. These are not your typical knitting technique/project based classes. These 2 workshops are meant to empower you to bring your vision and inspiration to your own creations. While they work well as companions, they are both valuable on their own. We are offering a discount if you sign up for both classes - or if you bring a friend! Please join us and sign up on their website.

Here’s the scoop:

Nail Your Aesthetic - Monday July 22, 7-9pm

Great designers across all disciplines have a personal aesthetic that is evident in their work. Whether it is the shape, materials, colors or patterns they employ, their aesthetic is what draws you to them and allows you to recognize their work. If you are interested in design, you also have a point of view. In this workshop, you will uncover your unique aesthetic through a series of exercises, and learn how to bring it to your work. There is a little bit of homework for this one - only fun stuff, I promise! But enroll soon so you have some time to prepare. Sign up here.

From Dream to Design - Monday July 29, 7-9pm

This workshop takes a look at the design process from inspiration to finished garment. We will talk about inspiration and where to find it, the fundamental elements of garment design, and look at the workflow from an initial idea to final piece. This workshop is a peek behind the curtain where I will share my process - whether it is coming up with ideas to fit a creative brief for publication, creating a single garment and even a collection. If you have ideas of your own and want to be freed from the shackles of a written pattern, this class will show you how it’s done! Sign up here.
