Ginkgo

I'm so pleased to be included in Quince & Co's Scarves, Etc. collection!  Ginkgo is an oversized lace scarf/wrap knit up in Osprey - an aran weight yarn that makes a bold statement.  The abstract lace pattern is reminiscent of the elegant and graphic ginkgo leaf. It is knit up in Carrie's yellow - the same exhuberant color of the ginkgo trees in fall. The golden yellow also serves as a warm reminder of the longer, sunny days. But of course it could be knit in any color.  It's the perfect snuggly wrap to throw around your shoulders over a jean jacket in fall, or to wrap tightly around and around your neck when you're shoveling snow.

from swatch to sketch to sweater...to book!

Bing. Bang. Boom. Actually - it wasn't that easy. There was more than a little panic and mayhem that accompanied having 4 designs selected for 60 Quick Knits for Little Kids a year ago. And a lot of knitting to do in a very short amount of time. Hoo boy! But all these months later, it's quite rewarding to see the finished product. I can hardly believe it!

Hartington

Finished. Finally. Love. It was a bit of indulgence to take the time to knit a pattern I did not write, but lessons were learned.

1. Never leave home without a row counter.

2. If you're going to leave a project on the shelf for 18 months,, take good notes before setting aside (including needle size and last row knit) and pin it to the garment.

3. Brush hair before photo shoot. Or at least look in a mirror.

guilty pleasure

These days I spend most of my knitting energy making stuff up - which is why knitting other people's patterns has become a guilty pleasure. I started this project about 18 months ago. In the meantime, I've gotten quite a lot of knitting done on other projects - while the unfinished back of this sweater has had an epic nap in a basket on a shelf. I picked it up again this weekend as I was re-organizing the shelves in my new studio. I've had a few false starts lately and it's just so nice to have something to work on while I figure out what's next.

yes, yes, yes... and yes!?!!

You really never know what will happen when you put yourself out there. I got the submission call for the 60 Quick Toddler Knits Book on August 14th. I left for vacation on August 15th with 6 skeins of yarn and 14 days to come up with as many designs possible. I knit swatch after swatch and my husband did sketch after sketch. Racing to put together the pitch, which was sent 10 minutes before the deadline, didn't give me much time for reflection. Once it was over, I walked around in a bit of a daze: Did that just happen? Was it any good? Did they even get it?
